On Viscosity Solutions of Hamilton-jacobi Equations

We consider the Dirichlet problem for Hamilton-Jacobi equations and prove existence, uniqueness and continuous dependence on boundary data of Lipschitz continuous maximal viscosity solutions.

L1-Approximation of Stationary Hamilton-Jacobi Equations

We describe a nonlinear finite element technique to approximate the solutions of stationary Hamilton-Jacobi equations in two space dimensions using continuous finite elements of arbitrary degree. The method consists of minimizing a functional containing the L-norm of the Hamiltonian plus a discrete entropy. It is shown that the approximate sequence converges to the unique viscosity solution und...

Representations of Solutions of Hamilton - Jacobi Equations

We consider here only the case where H = H(x, p) is a convex function with respect to the p variable. In this setting, representation formulas can be obtained by exploiting the well known connection existing via convex duality between the Hamilton Jacobi equation (1.1) with Calculus of Variations or, more generally, Optimal Control problems. In Section 1 we briefly review some known existence r...

On the Numerical Approximation of First-Order Hamilton-Jacobi Equations

We review some methods for the numerical approximation of time dependent and steady first order Hamilton Jacobi equations. Most of the discussion focuses on conformal triangular type meshes but we show how to extend this to the most general meshes. We review some first order monotone schemes and also high order ones specially dedicated to steady problems.
